I had a great artist's weekend!

greetings, fellow/sistren trans-gressorizers!

i just wanted to share what a dreamy weekend i had. not in the way of getting lots of things done (although the very necessary nappage did occur, thank goodness), but in artist support and inspiraccione, if you will...

saturday 2pm-5pm i met with my black lesbian writer's group--our first meeting. we're working on a nifty name for our group, among other assignments. it was a great meeting and we got a lot done. i learned a lot and grew a bit as a humyn, being. which is the point of these things anyway, right? i'm amazed at how much of acting, for example, is really about being... but anyway, then

saturday 12pm-5pm ish also, i met with y'all (trans-gression). i also learned a lot, and something Tally said in response to my check-in may have taken years off my path to a content and gainfully employed musician and writer. i heard from a very wise person once that your friends really influence where you are life and what you are doing. well the exact quote was, "show me who your friends are and i'll show you who you are".
so lately, i've been all "okay, I need to be around people who are doing what i wanna be doing".
so now i'm around people who are making their art and growing as individuals.
Laureen, in particular, has helped me a lot in helping me to work more efficiently and visualize a kind of life i want to have someday...a life that i am building now with her help and with all of yours as well.

just for the record - a friend of mine found my small supposedly non searchable website the other day. I was so impressed - I came home and googled my name - no website. For whatever reason google also does not claim to know about trans-gression website either. I tried yahoo and dogpile - voila!! both Laureen Griffin and trans-gression are searchable!!

gender portraiture

Yes!!!! I got the residency at 40th St. Studio....meaning a photography studio will open for my gender portraiture project. I am looking for potraitees - that is anyone interested in exploring their gendered self. I will be making costumes or you can provide your own outfit. -are you camera shy, but want to see what's up? I am also looking for gender confessions. I haven't decided if I will use the audio clips directly or make a book of quotes. You may visit the studio (in Philadelphia) beginning Sept. 17th....and yes I will be open for POST.....open studio tours....and yes I will have an introductory exhibit during the month of October. Glad to be here...finally!

After several tries, looks like many of us are now officially on-board blogging at trans-gression. Yippee!

Right now I'm figuring out what kind of work to bring to the table. I'm busy doing lots of things, but other than the fact that I have a beard, and am a chyk, nothing is really gender-specific. Not sure if I should create work around my gender representation or experience, or just continue as I have been and simply let my face speak for herself.

Any input anyone? Anyone?

Cameos

I've started a new project: taking portrait photos of people suited up in their chosen gender personas. As it turns out, people have been exploring more than one gender - masculine, feminine, androgyne, and so on. It's strange how we relate to stories of gender persecution, depending on hair length, skirt or pants, gesture, body type... while having a blast being ourselves, dressing up, and taking photos. I am located in Philadelphia and am looking for more people to photograph. If you are willing to suit up and have your photo taken, please send me an email.
